Shunyata Research recently received an unusual invitation. This invitation from one of America’s best Electrophysiology laboratories, the Minneapolis Heart Institute, gave Shunyata the opportunity to measure the effects of its products on site. Chief Physician Dr. was aware that Shunyata Research products were successfully used in the recording and film industries. Daniel Melby was hopeful that these products could provide a similar benefit in the medical field. Dr. Melby thought Shunyata Research’s products could prevent electrical noise from interfering with the extremely sensitive electronics and monitoring systems he uses every day in a variety of heart-related operations.

Shunyata Research’s electrical cables and several six-output voltage regulators were subjected to this test. By the way, let us point out that various voltage regulators and filters have been tried and failed in the past in different Electrophysiology laboratories located in different parts of America. Dr. Melby used Shunyata Research products in organ removal operations called ”Ablation”. Dr. to witness the results. Grant Samuelson from Shunyata, who was invited to the operating room by Melby, was also present for the trials with his surgical gown, mask and gloves.

Dr. Melby performed three heart operations, increasing the number of Shunyata products used in each one. And, each time, there was a noticeable difference in the resolution of the system. Below you will find Dr Melby’s article on what he found and observed. Shunyata Research products are now an indispensable part of the Heart Institute Operating Room Systems and with the impressive success achieved, the products are recommended to all other hospitals.

First of all, thank you so much for your visit today, it was a pleasure meeting you and I appreciate your time and effort. Our team also enjoyed having you here. Many people in our team have stated that they have never seen such clear cardiac signals anywhere before. The best case of the day was the last one; The resolution and low noise level of both cardiac signals opened our eyes wide. Regarding noise, I determine this as the most basic operating error; The noise level on the shaping computer was the lowest I have seen in the last decade and thousands of cases. Indeed, the noise level was much lower than what I could measure (set at 0.01mV). Visually, I think it was around 0.001-0.003mV. If we were to make a comparison, I would estimate that the previous noise was around 0.05-0.25mV. Equally important is the resolution of cardiac signals, which I describe as voltage changes over time. On the forming computer, this was the best I have observed both in my laboratory and in many other laboratories around the world. To be honest, this made me extremely excited. As we talked about during the day, normally the resolution of the forming system is much lower than the recording system. With Shunyata products the resolution was slightly better than with the recording system. Can you imagine, the signal amplification and processing result in the computer was better than our 75 thousand signal amplifier! In short, by connecting the shaper computer to the Shunyata Research system at the last stage, the resolution and signal noise reduction we achieved were better than I had ever witnessed and did not believe could be achieved. These improvements can and will ensure that our patients’ operations go better.
